What’s your day job?
I am a doctoral student at the University of Auckland, my research focuses on improving movement patterns in strength training.

What got you into teaching/inspires you with fitness?
I was an active kid, I was a ballet dancer and a horse rider. University and then work meant a lot of my activity fell by the wayside. I got back into regular exercise following a health scare. I was over weight for quite a bit of my 20’s. I joined a gym, I had tried working out alone but it wasn’t something I could get into. I lost 2 stone through running, but it was only when I found BODYBALANCE to add flexibility into my routine, something clicked for me. I then started BODYPUMP and that was when I truly fell in love with Group Fitness! I met some incredibly inspirational instructors throughout my journey. I became an instructor to pay it forward and to provide a space for others to find enjoyment through group exercise.

What do you teach and why?
I teach Functional Strength at Newmarket on Tuesdays at 12pm. I have taught a range of programs over the years, however at the moment I am focussed mostly in the Strength space (BODYPUMP, SD and Functional Strength), Cycle and BODYCOMBAT. I love teaching the different strength programs because they all have something unique to offer. I teach cycling because it is a great way to train cardio and I just love the way the classes are choreographed to be both challenging and fun. BODYCOMBAT is just an awesome way to let off some steam and also there is some really technical stuff, there is always something new to learn!

Why LM?
I have tried many fitness brands over the years, as both a participant and an instructor but Les Mills just has it nailed, the community, the quality of the products and the work that goes into each release, always innovating, the quality of the training we get as instructors around the world, the professionalism of staff and contractors, and the values of the business. You know if you go to a Les Mills class anywhere in the world you will get a great experience.

What motivational quote do you live by?
“In life you don't regret the things you do, you regret the things you don't do.”- Hugh Jackman

Any other fun facts?
I once cooked Fish & Chips for Dizzee Rascal!
